Shopping in Downtown Hartford was once home to major department stores such as G. Fox and Company, Korvettes and Sage Allen. Those have all gone away and Hartford is going through many new retail experiences that are being created today. The city itself still has great shops and stores plus the restaurants we all can go to. Many of us have become more into urban living and shopping in the Greater Hartford area.

Greater Hartford Shopping: Greater Hartford is home to numerous premier shopping facilities that cater to all of our needs.
Blue Back Square and West Hartford Center, West Hartford, CT: A traditional New England town center with more then 160 shops and restaurants in this higher income town. You will see some great locally owned shops and restaurants alone side chain type names. Office and medical are sprinkled here however you can walk the street and find fine choice from jewelry, clothing, wine, art and kids toys & furniture.
Directions to West Hartford Center from Hartford: Take I-84W to Exit 43 (Park Road). At end of the ramp take a left and continue till 2nd light. At 2nd light take right onto N. Main Street and continue until center OR take Farmington Avenue from downtown Hartford into West Hartford Center.

Westfarms Mall in West Hartford and Farmington: A forty year old mall that has updated itself to a 1.3 million square foot shopping mega mall. Well over 160 shops and restaurants and a hotel. All major chains and department stores can be found here as well as some local gems.
Directions to Westfarms Mall from Hartford (Mall is only about 7 miles from Downtown Hartford): Take I-84W to Exit 40, take right onto New Britain Ave (Route 71) and follow till mall

The Shoppes at Buckland Hills in Manchester, CT: A newer mega mall that is pushing over 1.1 million square foot that opened in 1990. Shopping, restaurants and hotels give you choices from all major names plus independent stores. New additions continue to build up this area and in 2015 more places will be opening for additional stores and restaurants.
Directions to the Shoppes at Buckland Hills (Only about 8.5 miles from Downtown Hartford): Take I-84E (You will go over Bulkley Bridge) to exit 62 (Buckland Street). At end of exit take a left onto Buckland Street and then take next right onto Buckland Hills Drive

The Shoppes at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor, CT: Over 325,00 square feet of shopping and restaurants in a winding outdoors.
Directions to the Shoppes at Evergreen Walk (Only about 9 miles from Downtown Hartford): The shoppes are only minutes down the road from The Shoppes at Buckland Hills in...Take I-84E (You will go over the Bulkley Bridge) to Exit 62 (Buckland Street). At the end of the exit take a left onto Buckland Street and continue through to the 3rd traffic light.

The Shops at Somerset Square in Glastonbury, CT: One of the first lifestyle centers in the country, Somerset Square is home to more then 20 shops and restaurants plus surrounding area has office buildings, additional stores and two hotels. A unique upscale environment.
Directions to Somerset Square from Downtown Hartford (Only about 5 miles from Downtown Hartford): Route #1: Take I-84E over the Bulkey Bridge to Route 2 East (Towards Norwich/ New London) to exit 6 (Griswold Street). Take a right at the light at the end of the ramp. Continue through the next light (There is a Gulf Gas Station on the left and McDonald's on the right). The shops are 3/4 of the block down on the left. Route #2: Take I-91S to exit 25N (Route 3 N towards Glastonbury).

The Shoppes at Farmington Valley in Canton, CT: A brand new 400,000 plus square foot center that is home to stores and restaurants.
Directions to the Shoppes at Farmington Valley (Only about 12.5 miles from Downtown Hartford): Take I-84W to Exit 41 (South Main St). Take a right off the exit and continue through West Hartford Center. Road changes name to North Main Street. Continue until Bishops Corner Shopping District.

Riverdale Farms in Avon, CT: A restored 19th century dairy farm that is home to a variety of locally owned and operated shops, offices and restaurants. Shops include a clock store, cookie store, equestrian store, sports memorabilia store, jewelery store, music store and more.
Directions to Riverdale Farms from Downtown Hartford (Only about 10 miles from Downtown Hartford): Route #1: Take I-84W to Exit 39 (Route 4). When you get off you will be on Route 4, continue to Farmington and then take a right onto Route 10 North and continue for 6 miles to Route 44 West. Take a left onto Route 44 W (by the Avon Old Farms Inn). After the 3rd traffic light take right onto Route 10 North and the shops are on the right (1/4 mile down) Route #2: Take I-91N to Exit 35B to Route 218 West to Route 185 West. Take a left onto Route 10 South and the shops are 3 miles down on the left
